ASSOCIATED PRESS: A fired Philadelphia newscaster has filed a lawsuit accusing her former co-anchor of invading her privacy and leaking personal information to the media. Alycia Lane’s lawsuit was filed Tuesday. Her former co-anchor, Larry Mendte, has pleaded guilty to illegally accessing Lane’s e-mail and is awaiting sentencing. He admitted reading thousands of Lane’s e-mails from 2006 to 2008. Lane’s lawsuit also names KYW-TV, the station that employed the two. She accuses the station of defaming her before and after she was fired after being arrested in December following a scuffle with New York police. Tuesday’s lawsuit expands on one […]
WAR GAMES: How Sarah Palin Got Hacked
ASSOCIATED PRESS: Hackers broke into the Yahoo! e-mail account that Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin used for official business as Alaska’s governor, revealing as evidence a few inconsequential personal messages she has received since John McCain selected her as his running mate. The Secret Service contacted The Associated Press on Wednesday and asked for copies of the leaked e-mails, which circulated widely on the Internet. The AP did not comply. The disclosure Wednesday raises new questions about the propriety of the Palin administration’s use of nongovernment e-mail accounts to conduct state business. The practice was revealed months ago _ […]

GAYDAR: Livin’ La Dolce Musto
BY AARON STELLA Amidst the revelry of the Mr. Gay Philadelphia pageant, I was able to finagle a future interview out of Michael Musto, famed gay-celeb columnist for the Village Voice in NYC. So a couple of weeks later, I hopped on the Chinatown bus headed for Village Voice’s headquarters in NYC. Musto, dressed in a crisp black and white vertical-striped shirt and baggy black slacks, (and of course, wearing his trademark Sally Jesse Raphaels) explained to me that the Voice was moving. Most everything was packed in boxes and hardly anyone was in the newsroom. We found a quiet […]
MEOW MIX: You’ve Come A Long Way, Maybe
Why did John McCain choose Alaska’s Sarah Palin, the Hottest Governor In America (a title she’ll only hold until Gavin Newsom wins California, but whatever) as his pick for vice-president? And come to think of it, given the two had only reportedly met once before she was tapped, is the former beauty queen even really his pick or just a Hillary Lite spokesmodel for social conservatives?…DEVELOPING… People don’t know anything about her, so the first words thrown out about her by right-wing pundits, “a maverick in Alaska,” threaten to stick. Look for a lot of talk in Minneapolis about where […]
MEDIA: Ex-Anchor Pleads Guilty To Email Hackery
INQUIRER: Former CBS3 anchor Larry Mendte pleaded guilty this morning in U.S. District Court to hacking into the personal e-mail of onetime colleague Alycia Lane. During a brief court hearing in Philadelphia, Mendte pleaded guilty to a single felony count. Federal prosecutors agreed not to make any recommendation of whether Mendte should be sentenced to prison though U.S. District Judge Mary McLaughlin still would be free to impose such a sentence. Under federal sentencing guidelines, Mendte could face a maximum of six months in prison. Mendte had no comment as he emerged from the courtroom, but his wife, Fox29 anchor […]
SHADY: Dog Clone Lady Mystery Deepens
ASSOCIATED PRESS: A woman who made headlines by having five pups cloned and was linked to an abduction case in England is also wanted in Tennessee on charges she tried to plan a burglary in 2004, a defense attorney and prosecutors there said. Joyce Bernann McKinney was charged in Carter County with criminal conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and failure to appear in court, said attorney David Crockett, who represented her in the Tennessee case. Authorities there said she instructed a 15-year-old boy to break into a house, and Crockett said she needed […]
LOVE CHILD BLUES: John Edwards Cops To Affair
ABC NEWS: John Edwards repeatedly lied during his Presidential campaign about an extramarital affair with a novice filmmaker, the former Senator admitted to ABC. In an interview for broadcast tonight on Nightline, Edwards told ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff he did have an affair with 44-year old Rielle Hunter, but said that he did not love her. Edwards also denied he was the father of Hunter’s baby girl, Frances Quinn, although the one-time Democratic Presidential candidate said he has not taken a paternity test. Edwards said he knew he was not the father based on timing of the baby’s birth […]
LOVE CHILD BLUES: Dems Give Edwards An Ultimatum — Clean Up Mess Or No Convention Speech
MCCLATCHY: RALEIGH, N.C. — Former Sen. John Edwards has a deadline to save his spot on the national stage. With two weeks to go before their national convention, a number of Democrats are saying that Edwards needs to publicly address National Enquirer stories that have alleged he had an affair with a campaign worker and fathered her baby. If Edwards fails to clear up the story in short order, he risks party officials deciding not to have him speak or, if they do, creating a distraction from a week focused on Barack Obama accepting the nomination. “If there is not […]

LAWYER: Spitzer Girl Stole I.D. For Gone Wild Debut
INQUIRER: Ashley Dupre, arguably the world’s most famous call girl, is being sued by a North Jersey woman who claims Dupre stole her identity. Dupre’s sexual liasons with Gov. Eliot Spitzer were made public in March and brought down the powerful New York lawmaker. After the scandal broke, the producers of the Girls Gone Wild videos scoured their vaults, found explicit footage of Dupre, and released the film. In the widely distributed video, Dupre identifies herself as “Amber Arpaio.” The camera zooms in on a New Jersey drivers license with Arpaio’s name and picture on it. Arpaio, 26, who works […]

WACKO JACKO: We Are Family
DAILY MAIL: Pictured on a visit to a toy and book shop near his current home in Las Vegas, the singer was slumped in a wheelchair wearing pyjamas, a dreadlocked wig, a surgeon’s mask, a baseball cap and sunglasses. Such theatre was presumably designed to prevent shoppers from discovering his true identity. The irony is of course that Jackson is now better known for wearing such ludicrous disguises than not. Indeed he would have stood a much better chance of not being noticed had he strode into the shop without any disguise — and had not pulled up in four […]
