TIMES OF LONDON: Christian Bale, the actor who plays Batman, was arrested today for allegedly assaulting his own mother and sister before last night’s premiere of The Dark Knight. The Welsh-born actor was in custody at a central London police station today being questioned over the incident which is thought to have taken place in his Dorchester Hotel suite on Sunday night. THE GUARDIAN: The actor Christian Bale, 34, was arrested on Sunday night after his mother and sister reported him to police for an alleged assault. His mother Jenny, 61, and sister Sharon, 40, are said to have gone to a police station in Hampshire to make the claim, which was subsequently referred to the Metropolitan police. Bale, in London to attend the European premiere of superhero blockbuster The Dark Knight last night, was apprehended at the Dorchester hotel. The Welsh actor had been staying there when the alleged incident took place. A Met spokesman said: “A 34-year-old man attended a London police station on Tuesday by appointment and was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault. He currently remains in custody.” As well as being released from custody to take a turn up the red carpet on Monday evening, it is thought that Bale was also allowed to take part in four press conferences to promote the film earlier that day. Batmanpow.jpgUPDATE: Christian Bale has been released on bail after spending more than four hours in police custody at a central London station being interrogated over allegations he assaulted his 61-year-old mom, Jenny, and 40-year-old sister, Sharon, Sunday night. “Mr. Bale, who denies the allegation, cooperated throughout, gave his account in full of the events in question, and has left the station without any charge being made against him by the police,” the actor’s lawyers at the high-powered London firm Schillings said in a statement. “At this time, there will be no further comment by Mr. Bale.”
