BRITNEY SPEARS: LAST YEAR’S PUSSY

BY TAMMY ADARIS Let’s get one thing straight from the get-go: Britney Spears is many things, but she is NOT fat. In fact, put her in any average suburban neighborhood, and she’d be Queen of the MILFs on any block. That is, however, in clothes that actually, you know, flatter her physique, not fillet it. But as we know all too well, nothing about the former Mrs. Federline — save her ongoing capacity to leave people who should know better by now gawking in horror — seems to fit properly. More disturbing than that vision of a doughy, vacant-eyed Britney […]

Church Lady Refuses To Do What Jesus Would Do

LOVE BY STU BYKOFSKY OF THE DAILY NEWS Just before tourist season began, the American Family Association of Pennsylvania, in Franklin, tucked into the northwest corner of the state (aka, God’s country) warned people to steer clear of Philly. It was not a formal boycott, says AFAP President Diane Gramley, a pleasant, God-fearing woman. She wanted to spawn what I call a Boycott Lite because the city went “overboard,” she says, to lure gay tourists (aka Sodomites), through advertising to gays, such as the 2004 Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation’s “Get your history straight and your nightlife gay” TV commercial […]

CINEMA: Bergman, Antonioni, Apatow

BY DAN BUSKIRK FILM CRITIC SAN FRANCISCO — As Philly slowly melts into its mid August stew I slipped off this week to San Francisco, where it is a good twenty degrees cooler and I can lounge around in my sweater all week and entertain some thoughts other than, “Geez, it’s frigging hot today.” The plan was to relax and maybe file some wildly irrelevant pieces on the Pacific Film Archive’s Max Ophuls festival or Alpha video’s reissue of Jean Hersholt‘s Dr. Christian series. Instead, my ride to the airport arrived with the news of Swedish director Ingmar Bergman‘s death, […]

As If The Pumping House Music And Bare-Chested Men Whipping Their Shirts Around Like A Lasso Wasn’t Hint Enough, New Street Signs Spell It Out…

A dedication ceremony was held Wednesday afternoon to unveil street signs to define Philadelphia’s famed “gayborhood.” Singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” a group of about 100 gathered at the corner of 13th and Locust Streets, in the Washington West neighborhood, where one of 36 discreet rainbow signs were unveiled. The sign is the same size as the Locust Street sign and fastened directly beneath it. Tami Sortman is president of the Philadelphia Gay Tourism Caucus: “Philadelphia four years ago started a gay-friendly campaign here to bring gay travelers into the city, and we felt that it was really important for […]
