Officers were called to the 2300 block of Wilder Street after reports of the shooting just after 12:30 a.m. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. One wounded victim was taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital; another was transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Authorities have broken up an illegal gun trafficking network where guns were stolen from homes in the Philadelphia suburbs and sold on the streets of Philadelphia and Norristown. Seven people (one from Philadelphia, six from the suburbs) have been charged in connection with more than 40 burglaries in Montgomery, Chester, and Berks counties. A 14-year-old boy was shot and killed Saturday in broad daylight in South Philadelphia. Police have charged 18-year-old Charles Meyers of South Philadelphia with his murder. Philadelphia City Council members Darrell L. Clarke and Donna Reed Miller, stonewalled by the Pennsylvania legislature’s continued apathy on gun control, said they would sue the state today for Philadelphia’s right to enforce its own, stricter firearms laws. In what has been regarded as a legal long shot, the lawsuit will seek to force the state House and Senate to do what they have refused to do: allow the city to force owners to immediately report stolen guns and to set monthly limits for firearms purchases, among other things. Seven police officers fired up to 85 rounds at a “deranged” man who was killed while pacing with a gun on a South Philadelphia street corner, authorities said yesterday. Police Commissioner Sylvester M.
