BY WILLIAM C. HENRY Have you noticed how little Republican wind is being expended on waving the “corporate treachery” flag. Barely a whiff. Don’t you find that a little odd given the make up of the “base” of the party. You know, that segment who, along with the rest of us, always bears the brunt of corporate America’s penchant for shoving truth, fairness and accountability further and further up the ass of America’s middle and lower classes. On the other hand, maybe it’s not an oddity at all. Maybe it’s flat out predictable. Why? Because, if right wing candidates were forced to truthfully and openly discuss the actual causes and dimensions of the vast corporate/individual responsibility divide in this country, said “base” just might turn the subject into the hottest goddamn talking point potato said prevaricating plutocrats have ever had to handle.
Remember an American company by the name of Pfizer? I say “remember” because they’re a company that’s about to exit our shores for that emerald green (as in the color of money) island called Ireland. Gee, why would an American pharma icon like Pfizer even consider such a thing? Why? Well, they say they simply have to do so because it will enable them to hang onto considerably more of an honestly owed U.S. obligation which would otherwise contribute to: 1) a reduction in America’s national debt, and 2) an appreciable lessening of the constantly increasing tax burden being shoved down the throats of a truly patriotic American taxpaying middle class by such corporate tax cheats, dodgers and betrayers as themselves! Sarcasm intended.
The truth of this matter — and others — centers around the super-sized disgustingly unconscionable barefaced LIE continually proffered by the Republican party and a completely corrupted business media afraid of losing its access to the titans of Wall Street and America’s big-business community whose constant Goebbels-sized lying, whining and pandering is designed to leave the American people believing that the “big bad oppressive overbearing out-of-control anti-business” federal government is intentionally burdening said immensely trustworthy uber-patriotic putupons with an outrageous impossible-to-compete-
Well, BULLSHIT! The TRUTH is that if any American corporations are paying an effective tax rate of more than 13% they need to hire new CFOs and/or retain new accounting, legal and/or lobbying representation! The average corporate tax rate paid in this country is 12.6% and in Pfizer’s case it has been AS LOW AS 7.5%! Many of America’s largest and and most profitable corporations pay ZERO federal taxes! And they are some of the very corporations who constantly piss and moan about the “oppressive” American corporate tax rate! I mean, if it weren’t such a morally and ethically egregious falsehood, it would be utterly LAUGHABLE! We’re talking about tax dodging on a legendary scale by traitorous American corporations who stow TRILLIONS of dollars away in off-shore accounts in countries whose greed and middle finger up the ass of the middle class American taxpayer is exceeded only by the financial chicanery and outright America subversion of the lying pandering political right wing and its conspiratorial big-business media, and the phony mendacious deceitful corporations themselves!
Rarely if ever in the history of American political, big-business and media manipulation, obfuscation, pandering, outright lying and clear-cut deceit has there been a more flagrant or blatant conspiratorial effort to pull the wool over the eyes of a gullible, trusting, unsuspecting American public. It is a classic example of telling a big enough lie often enough such that people come to believe it simply because of their conviction that no one would or could have the brazenness or audacity to carry out such criminality. For decades the Republican party, the American business community and a subservient media have been repeating a gargantuan LIE. It isn’t just politics and everyday greed. It’s a blight on what should be America’s sense of fairness and morality. It’s a cancer on trust and believability. It’s nothing short of grand-scale thievery from the American treasury for which NO ONE will be held responsible!. It has robbed and continues to rob the American people of necessary improvements and services many of which could be life saving or altering.
The good news is that you can do something about it. You can start by VOTING! You can start by voting for Presidents and Congresspersons who actually give a shit about middle and lower class Americans. You can start by no longer falling victim to the right wing’s lies and deceit. You can start by recognizing that ANY right wing crap about the “trickle down” benefits of ANYTHING is pure unadulterated horseshit. You can start by recognizing that absolutely NOTHING that Republicans even hint will accrue to you as a result of their avowed reliance on Ayn Rand-like greed, selfishness, and resolute Laissez-faire economic philosophy will EVER do so. You can start by telling America’s current and would-be crop of right wing political plutocrats and a culpable American media that you’re fed up with their lies and cowardice. You can start by DEMANDING that ALL corporate tax loopholes are eliminated. You can start by making it abundantly clear to America’s conscienceless bottom-line worshiping corporate scam artists that if they aren’t willing to pay their fair share of taxes to support the common good of ALL of America’s citizens, you’ll take your business to those who are, and you can let it be known unequivocally to Washington’s 1% embracing elitists that those who don’t should no longer be permitted to do business here. Period!
