EARLY WORD: Night They Drove Ol’ Dixie Down

The Last Waltz, the legendary farewell concert by rock group The Band, was held on Thanksgiving in 1976. The Last Waltz Philly will celebrate the music of The Band’s farewell show and bring the spirit of the legendary concert to the Trocadero for this very special benefit. Akin to The Last Waltz, the Thanksgiving weekend tribute concert will feature a core band with more than a dozen special guests. Proceeds will benefit four Philadelphia organizations that focus on education: Parents United for Public Education ; Passyunk Square Civic Association Education Committee ; Friends of Horatio B. Hackett School ; and School District of Philadelphia’s Music Education Instrument Repair Program. You can purchase tickets HERE.

THIS JUST IN: Today it was announced that Garth Hudson, keyboardist in The Band, will be joining the The Last Waltz Tribute Band on November 10th at the Troc. Reportedly, Hudson is a big public education advocate and wanted to lend a hand. Concert goers who donate $100 for a VIP ticket will attend a Meet & Greet with Garth Hudson and other members of The Last Waltz Tribute Band, attend a private pre-show acoustic set with open bar from 7:00 – 8:00pm.
