Lynne Cheney the wife of the vice president, was at the National Constitution Center on Monday morning to launch a web site called Consource.org. It’s an online library of the notes and writings of the founding fathers. Cheney was addressing students in Philadelphia. Joining her in a webcast were US Senate majority leader Harry Reid, who was participating from Maryland, and US Supreme Court justice Steven Bryer, who is teaching constitutional law by webcast from the Harvard Law School. Dr. Terri Lipman, University of Pennsylvania associate professor at the school of nursing was the lead investigator of a study looking a diabetes risk factors: “And in the study that we did looking specifically at children in the West Philadelphia community, we found that 30 percent of those children were obese and at risk for developing type II diabetes.” According to Dr. Lipman’s registry, none of the children in that community had type II diabetes prior to 1996. Now, she says a third of children with diabetes had type II diabetes. [via KYW]

On Oct. 30, the eight Democratic candidates are scheduled to come to Philadelphia for a televised debate, the first presidential debate in the city since 1976. This event has been on the national political calendar since May 16. At that time, the Democratic National Committee put out a list of dates and locations for six officially sanctioned debates for the second half of this year. Since then, there has been nary an official word about the Philadelphia event, which is now just over six weeks away. And few unofficial words. Last week, officials at the sponsoring organizations, which include MSNBC and the state Democratic Party, offered assurances that the event was going to happen and that a formal announcement would come soon.
