LADY GAGA: Born This Way

Let the buyer be weird. TIME: The video opens with a “Manifesto of Mother Monster”–as Gaga calls herself, with her fans being “monsters”–where a Gaga voiceover tells the tale of the birth of good and evil. Or something. Frankly, it’s hard to follow her story because at the same time that she’s narrating it, we’re witnessing what appears to be a gooey, kaleidoscopic alien birth, before we’re plunged into the depths of hell. WILL THE REAL LADY GAGA PLEASE STAND UP: Matt Taibbi Calls Out CBS’ Lara Logan And Her Notion Of The Media As The Obedient Lapdog Of Power

MATT TAIBBI: See, according to Lara Logan [pictured, below left], not only are reporters not supposed to disclose their agendas to sources at all times, but in the case of covering the military, one isn’t even supposed to have an agenda that might upset the brass! Why? Because there is an “element of trust” that you’re supposed to have when you hang around the likes of a McChrystal. You cover a war commander, he’s got to be able to trust that you’re not going to embarrass him. Otherwise, how can he possibly feel confident that the right message will get […]

LADY GAGA: Alejandro

BOSTON HERALD: It opens with the ominous (and ridiculous) goose-stepping and closes with Gaga on a bed outfitted in a latex nun’s habit. In between, there’s a frozen heart on a black satin pillow, a coffin being carried through the snow, and “Cabaret” gloom shadowing the whole thing. Oh, and there’s a bra with machine gun barrels protruding from each breast that’s clearly an homage to, or besting of, Madge’s infamous conical cups. Is Gaga reaching her serious phase? What can that even mean coming from Miss Disco Stick? The song itself is the worst part of the video; “Alejandro” […]

[Artwork by BEN HEINE] NEW YORK MAGAZINE: Before the meeting, I assumed that someone with a stage name like “Lady” (her given name is Stefani Joanne Germanotta) was going to be a bit standoffish—that’s the strategy employed by most nervous young musicians on the occasion of their first real interview, in any case. But I never thought she was going to actually be Lady Gaga. These days, very few artists play the media like Bob Dylan, or stay in character as Devo’s Mark Mothersbaugh did in his early career. In the age of VH1’s Behind the Music, tabloid culture, and […]

TRIBULATION: Kanye West/Lady Gaga Tour Cancelled

REUTERS: A U.S. and Canada tour by Kanye West and Lady Gaga has been canceled with no reason given just weeks after the rap star came under public fire for humiliating country star Taylor Swift at an awards ceremony. Concert promoter Live Nation said in a statement on Thursday that the “Fame Kills” tour, that was due to kick off in Phoenix, Arizona on November 10 and run through January, had been canceled with refunds available at the point of sale. West came under fire after an outburst at the MTV Video Music wards when he grabbed the microphone as […]
