Tania Isaac Dance
Featuring the stunning, vibrant movement style of St. Lucia-born choreographer Tania Isaac, stuporwoman is an operatic and humorous fairytale of motherhood and parenting in the twenty-first century. With original text written by Guggenheim Award-winning playwright Bridget Carpenter and live music by Philadelphia Opera Company violinist Heather Zimmerman, stuporwoman offers a tongue-in-cheek, serious yet satirical peek at multigenerational perspectives on work, family, conflict and the often absurd results of balancing it all. Jérôme Bel
After amassing great critical acclaim at the Melbourne International Arts Festival, Impulstanz in Vienna, and Kunsten Festival in Brussels, Pichet Klunchun and Myself makes its Philadelphia premiere at the 2008 Live Arts Festival. In this candid, often humorous encounter, Jérôme Bel and Thai classical dancer Pichet Klunchun compare traditional and contemporary dance from two radically different cultural perspectives. Pichet Klunchun and Myself is a duet, a fascinating dialogue of ideas and movement that questions the relationship between performance and cultural exchange. (9/4 – 9/5)
