THE FADER: Detroit-born and Minneapolis-based artist Lizzo has been making waves locally for years, but in the past year the self-described “wanton rapper” has broken onto the national stage. Her upcoming album Big GRRRL Small World will take on racism, feminism, and body image. And with with features from Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and Doomtree’s Lazerbeak, we can be sure that the project will have a unique flavor. Today she premieres “Ain’t I,” the second single off the album. MORE

G JONES & BLEEP BLOOP: Mind (Lunice Remix)
Referred to by Zane Lowe as simply “MAD,” the Lunice remix of G Jones & Bleep Bloop‘s “Mind” premiered today on Beats 1 Radio as Zane Lowe’s ‘World Record.’ Zane also caught up with DJ Shadow, about his Liquid Amber imprint and chatted with him live on air. Lunice has admired DJ Shadow, being a fan since his high school Bboy days, and shares his enthusiasm for the imprint. “I was more than happy to work a remix for the label. And the song was really good too so it was a no brainer.” Lunice continues, “The rhythmic timing of the melody is something I relate to. It’s not exactly on the 4 count but still fits perfectly on the track. These type of subtle but left field decisions in music is what intrigues me the most. My feelings for the west coast sound and culture is nothing but love. I will always be available for a collaboration with people who share the same, or similar, creative values as I.” G Jones and Bleep Bloop have known each other and worked together sporadically over the last five years, but ‘Mind’ is their first full collaborative EP release. Featuring the mysterious vibes and heavy backbeats we’ve come to expect from Liquid Amber, every track here is full of twists, turns, and erratic analog sounds. Check out lead single “Real” here, and stay tuned for the full EP next Tuesday (11/3).
