BY WILLIAM C. HENRY One could write a library on the subject of Republican dastardliness — the stock-in-trade of a bunch of tiny-minded, antebellum, bible-babbling, Stone Agers who represent the intolerance, selfishness and sanctimony of an American lineage that has refused to “integrate” itself into a civilized union ever since the stars and bars were raised over Montgomery — but I’ll spare you much of the agony. My plan is to merely “uncomfort” you a bit by highlighting a few of the more acridly odious activities radiating from the Right-Wing latrine.
First and certainly foremost (in as much as it could conceivably effect nearly half of the population), if you’re a woman and a Republican, you obviously need to get out more often. Had you done so, you’d know that there is open warfare being waged against your sex by a misogynist male-dominated Republican party. If you don’t believe that your body belongs to you and you alone, and believe with all your being that getting with child (discounting sexual assault) always bears — without caveats or conditions — two-sided accountability, then I’m wasting my breath. When was the last time you heard the sanctimonious right-to-lifers screaming for the “eunuchizing” and/or incarceration of male parties to unintended pregnancies? When was the last time you heard those holier-than-thous volunteering to pay for the care and nurturing of said yet unborn? No, not paying to send them to some orphanage or adoption agency. I’m talking about taking first-party responsibility for them for the first 18 to 21 years of their lives, or even longer in today’s Republican wrought economy. On the other hand, these Pecksniffians do appear willing to cope with the killing of babies so long as the mortality rates don’t constrict the flow of oil and gas profits into their campaign coffers. What a surprise.
On July 14, 45 Republican United States Senators committed one of the most disgusting acts of their party’s past three-quarter century of trying. They voted to deny lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered public school children (K-12) protections against discrimination and bullying under federal civil rights laws. Not only that, they had the unmitigated gall to defend such brazen, blatant prejudice by stating that they felt it was a matter better left to the individual states. In other words, they hold the civil “rights” of children so dear that they would prefer to leave the affording of same up to the vagaries of 50 separate and unequal entities a number of which they already know full well don’t give a tinker’s damn about doing so. Folks, it’s called Bigotry with a capital “B,” speaking of which…
News flash from Right-Wing headquarters: “Screw your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free! Who cares if they’ve walked 1,700 miles or more in Dollar Store sandals or barefoot! Send ’em back to the wars, the drugs, the homelessness, the violence, the corruption, the fetid sewage strewn streets from whence they came! Don’t you get it? Haven’t you noticed? We’re for caring about the unborn, but not so much so for the recently born — well, actually any age if they happen to be of Latino extraction.” Well, actually “not necessarily” and with a heap of hypocritical qualification thrown in for good measure. You see, the Right truly doesn’t give a rat’s ass about any of the some 12 to 30 million (nobody knows for sure) illegal immigrants so long as they’re kept under wraps and hard at work digging their ditches, washing their dishes, making their beds, cleaning their offices, picking their vegetables, plucking their chickens, and performing every other menial job they themselves wouldn’t be caught dead doing at any age or wage, let alone the less than minimum one that so many American employers simply love taking advantage of.
Yes, folks, it’s that perennial Republican “do as I say, not as I do” bugaboo of illegal immigration. So far the most popular remedies proposed by the Right are: 1) rounding up every last one of those 12 to 30 million men, women and children and busing, flying or force-marching them back “home” (no suggestions as to how to cover the TRILLION dollar cost, wreckage to our economy, or the “right up their alley” moral implications of doing so), and 2) pissing away untold BILLION$ more building an unbreachable wall from Seattle to Key West — excepting, of course, any rampart work to the east of the Texas/Mexican border or along the west coast north of Baha so long as the destruction of all privately owned Central American watercraft has been certified to have been accomplished beforehand.
And then, of course, there’s the despicable matter of the vote. Or, as the Right perceives it, a desperate need to severely limit the number and type of practitioners thereof — especially those of a black, red, tan, female, elderly, poor, LGB or T, have-completed-high-school, and/or Spanish speaking (or accented), persuasion. Combined Republican efforts to curtail balloting by the aforementioned is enough to choke every donkey on earth — which, of course, is their intention precisely. One would think that in attempting to implement such minority-directed underhandedness the Republican party might want to keep their bigotry as close to the vest as possible. Quite the contrary. Since there had been, in fact, few if any instances of voter fraud to begin with on which to base their bogus appeal, they were forced to cozen some into existence. But then, articulating the phony has never been one of the Right’s shortcomings. So, what are we to think of a political party who bears distrust and ill will toward just about every minority group in the country except WASPs and the “F_ _ k you! I’ve got mine, get your own!” two percent? Let your imagination run wild.
And to top things off, the Right would have you believe that continuing to risk more American lives, limbs and sanity in yet another utterly abominable war in the Middle East is the only solution to Israeli/Iranian hostility. Think about it. In order to accept that kind of maleficent drivel, you’d have to believe that the President of the United States and all of his men are as naive, malleable and misguided as a bunch of self-serving, lying, Republican hypocrites are all-knowing. Well, all I can say is consider the odds. Actually, I think the following anonymous quote sums up the current state of affairs quite handily: “The Republicans want to frighten the voters into believing that the Democrats will sell out Israel and the United States. Selling this phony message is tremendously important to them as they get ready for the 2016 election. Domestically, their arguments against the Democrats are vanishing. Obamacare is increasingly popular as signups become more efficient. The deficit—the Holy Grail for Republicans—is shrinking. Unemployment is declining. All they can do is complain that Obama and the Democrats are surrendering to Islam.”
