NEW YORK TIMES: Welcome to the new world of Maybe Journalism — a best guess at the news as it might well have been, rendered as a video game and built on a bed of pure surmise. A computer-generated “news report” of the Tiger Woods S.U.V. crash — complete with a robotic-looking simulation of Mr. Woods’s wife chasing him with a golf club — has become a top global online video of the moment, perhaps offering a glimpse at the future of journalism, tabloid division. (No matter that the police said she was using the club to release Mr. Woods from the car.) The minute-and-a-half-long digitally animated piece was created by Next Media, a Hong Kong-based company with gossipy newspapers in Hong Kong and Taiwan. The video is one of more than 20 the company releases a day, often depicting events that no journalist actually witnessed — and that may not have even occurred. The animated “reports” began in November and are based on information gleaned from the Web and Apple Daily’s own reporting, making what the staff considers to be informed guesses about how events unfolded and giving a vividness and a sense of concrete reality to what is basically conjecture. UPDATE: Mindy Lawton, a 34-year-old waitress, claims to have had a year-long affair with Tiger Woods filled with regular sex in a range of locations. The Daily Mail writes that the pair met in the summer of 2006 at a diner where Lawton worked. According to Lawton, Woods is quite the lover. He is “very well endowed” and “knows his way around the bedroom. On a scale of ten I would give him 12,” she tells News of the World. MORE

Playgirl’s rep Daniel Nardicio confirms to Life & Style that the online magazine has received photos claiming to be Tiger sans clothes. But until the photo is proven to be real, don’t expect to see it online. “We’re currently trying to authenticate the photos before we make any decisions on purchasing the Tiger Woods pics and ascertaining the value,” Nardicio tells Life & Style. UPDATE: A police officer who responded to Tiger Woods‘ (FSY) SUV accident outside his Florida home found two iron golf clubs on the ground and $235 in the vehicle. The Windermere officer said in a report released Monday that Woods was at first unresponsive, lying on the road covered in a blanket and resting his head on a pillow. The officer said the world’s No. 1 golfer tried to stand up before the officer told him to lie down for his safety. The officer used the pillow to immobilize the golfer’s spine. Woods was bleeding from cut lips but was breathing normally. His wife, Elin, was kneeling over him. The sport-utility vehicle’s engine was still running, the front passenger door was jammed and both rear door windows were broken out. The two golf clubs were next to a golf cart, which also was in the road, the report said. MORE
