BLITZER: Because, you know, during a campaign, every presidential campaign, things are said, it’s tough, as you well know, it gets sometimes pretty fierce out there. And during the campaign, you said this, you said: “This is not a man who sees America as you see it and how I see America.” And then you went on to say: “Someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect that he is palling around with terrorists who would target their own country.”
PALIN: Well, I still am concerned about that association with Bill Ayers. And if anybody still wants to talk about it, I will, because this is an unrepentant domestic terrorist who had campaigned to blow up, to destroy our Pentagon and our U.S. Capitol. That’s an association that still bothers me. And I think it’s still fair to talk about it. However the campaign is over. That chapter is closed. Now is the time to move on and to, again, make sure that all of us are doing all that we can to progress this nation. Keep us secure, get the economy back on the right track, and many of us do have some ideas on how to do that and hopefully we’ll be able to put all of that wisdom and experience to good use together. PHAWKER: Lady, sit down and shut the FUCK up. You never struck anyone as being especially bright, in fact when you finally get out of your bubble and actually read some of your polling you will find that the majority of Americans think YOU ARE TOO FUCKING STUPID TO BE PRESIDENT, so let us spell it out for you: YOU. FUCKING. LOST. In large part, because of the stupid shit that came out of your mouth during the campaign. Especially the Ayers nonsense. What part of that don’t you get? How many times do you have to wind up on the wrong side of history? How many electoral landslides have to crush you before you realize that America has called bullshit on your phony Neiman Marcus populism and miseducated fear-mongering Caribou-Barbie-McCarthy-with-a-vagina-Bible-Spice BULLSHIT and the horse it rode in on. And where did you learn how to speak English? Azerbaijan? That is NOT how you use ‘progress’ as a verb. Our advice: Less time on the tanning bed, and more time in the library — actually reading books, instead of trying to ban them.
VANCOUVER SUN: Florida-based porn director Cezar Capone has offered to pay Palin $2 million to appear in an adult film production. Capone, who calls himself “the king of all MILF films,” promises in an open letter on his website that the film would be distributed internationally, shot in high definition, and feature a “beautiful mother recognized by all of America … as the most desirable woman over 40.” To prove he’s serious about the offer, Capone says he’s prepared to hold the money in escrow immediately. To sweeten the deal, Palin’s husband Todd has been offered a co-starring role in the production, for which Capone would be “prepared to kick in an extra $100,000,” and a new Arctic Cat snowmobile. REUTERS: Paulson sidestepped questions on whether the Treasury would use bailout funds to help struggling Detroit automakers, as the industry and some lawmakers have called for. While he said the industry was a “critical” one for the United States, he said the purpose of the program was to provide financial system stability. He said one option would be to amend legislation to allow $25 billion already approved for efficient vehicle production to be made available more quickly. MORE
WASHINGTON POST: In the six weeks since lawmakers approved the Treasury’s massive bailout of financial firms, the government has poured money into the country’s largest banks, recruited smaller banks into the program and repeatedly widened its scope to cover yet other types of businesses, from insurers to consumer lenders. Along the way, the Bush administration has committed $290 billion of the $700 billion rescue package.
Yet for all this activity, no formal action has been taken to fill the independent oversight posts established by Congress when it approved the bailout to prevent corruption and government waste. Nor has the first monitoring report required by lawmakers been completed, though the initial deadline has passed.
“It’s a mess,” said Eric M. Thorson, the Treasury Department’s inspector general, who has been working to oversee the bailout program until the newly created position of special inspector general is filled. “I don’t think anyone understands right now how we’re going to do proper oversight of this thing.” MORE
