INQUIRER: Three overnight slayings capped a bloody weekend in the city as Philadelphia homicide detectives continued to search for shooters who on Thursday gunned down the leader of a North Philadelphia drug gang and his associate. Late Sunday, a 42-year-old man was shot four times shortly after 11 p.m. on the 1000 block of Pallas Street in West Philadelphia. The man, who has not been named by police, was pronounced dead at 5:23 a.m. at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Investigators have no motive or suspects in the slaying.
Early this morning, a 27-year-old man was shot once in the chest shortly before 4 a.m. on the 1400 block of Unity Street in Northeast Philadelphia. The victim, who has not been named, died at 5:35 a.m. at Temple University Hospital, police said.
Shortly after dawn, a 39-year-old man was shot multiple times at 6:08 a.m. near the intersection of Rising Sun Ave and Wingohocking Street in the Feltonville section. The man, who has not been named, died at 6:44 a.m. at Temple.
Before the three overnight shootings, the homicide count for the year stood at 276. In 2007, there were 328 killings to date. MORE
