TELEGRAPH: The 71-year-old star was cut free by rescue workers following the crash in Mississippi. He is to undergo surgery after suffering a broken arm, broken elbow and damage to his shoulder. Despite his injuries, Freeman is in “good spirits,” according to his publicist, Donna Lee. “He says he’ll be ok and is looking forward to a full recovery,” she told reporters. The actor, currently appearing in Batman film The Dark Knight, was driving along a rural highway shortly before midnight on Sunday when he lost control of the car, which left the road and flipped over several times. No other vehicle was involved and police are investigating the possibility that Freeman may have fallen asleep at the wheel. Authorities have ruled out alcohol or drugs as a factor. His female passenger, Demaris Meyer, also had to be cut free and details of her condition have not been released. Both were airlifted to the Regional Medical Centre in Memphis, Tennessee. Freeman’s friend, Bill Luckett, with whom he co-owns a restaurant and blues club in Mississippi, said Freeman was “in good spirits, but he’s in a lot of pain,” adding that it could take three or four months for him to recover. The crash took place five miles outside Charleston, Mississippi, where the actor has a home. Witness Bill Rogers, who lives nearby, told CNN: “I heard a noise outside that sounded like a car sliding. I turned around and looked out the window real quick and I saw a car flipping bumper to bumper, head over heels.” MORE
