If we’re taking sides in the Barbara Walters vs. Star Jones bitchfight, I’m with Starr, people. The backstory: In her tiresome new book, Barbara dishes on Starr’s weight-loss surgery, among other things. Inevitably asked for her comment, Jones put the smack down: “It is a sad day when an icon like Barbara Walters, in the sunset of her life, is reduced to publicly branding herself as an adulterer, humiliating an innocent family with accounts of her illicit affair and speaking negatively against me all for the sake of selling a book,” Jones told Us. “It speaks to her true character.”SNAP! Called her old and shit!…DEVELOPING…
The other day Boss Phawker asked if I wanted to review Babs’ book and try to get an interview with the old broad when she was book-touring through town. Uhh, I’ll pass. For one thing, like she’d talk to a blogger (Oh, I coulda delivered Babs. She owes me, long story. –The Ed.), and for another thing, my problem with Walters has always been that contrary to her own belief, interviewing interesting people does not make you, in turn, interesting. And knowing now what’s in the book — the affair she’s exploiting, her description of promising Monica Lewinsky she could “give you the forum and the opportunity to represent yourself with the greatest dignity” only to gigglingly ask Lewinsky to tell her what “phone sex” is — I can guarantee things would not have gone well…DEVELOPING…
Yet another reason the Philadelphia Parking Authority can eat a bag of dicks: There’s now $1 “processing” fee to pay your parking tickets online. I can report, however, that the fee isn’t per-ticket, meaning say you go online to pay two tickets because you realized when you went to pay the most recent one that you forgot that one from the other week (a hypothetical of course, ahem), it’s still only a dollar. Still a dick move though, and makes it cheaper to pay through snail mail, especially if you have those Forever Stamps...DEVELOPING…
Beer Can Chicken: Cindy McCain, heiress to her family’s beer-distributor fortune, tells Ann Curry she’ll “never” release her tax returns, despite her husband’s campaign benefitting from company perks like cheap air flight. This is one of those moments where I think “Hmm, back in the ’04 when the GOP was screaming about Teresa Heinz Kerry refusing to release her tax returns, weren’t we Democrats defending her right to privacy — after all, she wasn’t the candidate, right? And isn’t all this hectoring of poor Cindy just politics as usual? Heinz Kerry did eventually release some of her 2003 return — enough for reporters to examine how and if she benefited from the Bush tax cuts. Cindy hasn’t done that much and seems unwilling to. She’s like Teresa without the accent, this one…DEVELOPING…
But enough with these ‘spackled on’ trollops, please put your paws together and give a warm Meow Mix welcome to Philly homegirl, current Brooklyn res, and Park The Van recording artist Pepi Ginsberg. Kinda post-MIA chick-Beck. She plays at JBs on the 28th with Dr. Dawg.
