INKY EDITORIAL BOARD:
In the Eighth District, Republican incumbent MIKE FITZPATRICK vows to remain a moderate in his caucus. He calls for a new Iraq strategy, understands conservation issues, and knows his district well, having served 10 years as a county official. The Democrat, Iraq veteran Patrick J. Murphy, needs more seasoning.
We’re guessing this was some kind of innoculation against the inevitable cries of ‘liberal bias’ the Inquirer Editorial Board would open themselves up to out in the exurbs if they endorsed the entire Democrat side of the dance card. What a buncha pussies! Sometimes there just isn’t two sides of the story. Two examples come to mind: the Holocaust and THIS ELECTION. You know what you do when people accuse you of liberal bias? You tell them to shut up, you tell them they are about to get a liberal knuckle sandwich or you just ignore them and do your goddamn job. But you NEVER cower, and you NEVER compromise the facts and you NEVER EVER shave the truth just to make your conclusions look a little more palatable to your critics. Mike Fitzpatrick is an empty suit, a Bush-Cheney Yes Man and an RNC weather vane. This notion that he is somehow more “seasoned” than Patrick Murphy is another bogus Rovian meme given oxygen from a moment in a debate when Fitzpatrick asked Murphy how many school districts there are in the Eight District and Murphy didn’t know. Fitzpatrick threw out a figure and much hay was made of this. Criminally under-reported was the fact that Fitzpatrick was WRONG, too. Advantage, no one. But then when you consider that Patrick Murphy served his country in Iraq while chickenhawks like Mr. Fitzpatrick could only muster the courage to send OTHER men to do the fighting for him. Okay, that happens, sometimes. But then when the boys come back home and one of them runs for office against you and you question their military service in a deeply cynical gambit to hold onto power, well, not only does Phawker cordially invite you to eat a dry bowl of fuck, but we are fairly confident that NO RESPONSIBLE MEDIA OUTLET WOULD ENDORSE A MAN WHO DID NOT SERVE WHO QUESTIONS THE MILITARY SERVICE OF SOMEONE WHO DID.
Inquirer: ENDORSES SWIFT BOAT CAPTAIN MIKE FITZPATRICK
Phawker: ENDORSES PATRICK MURPHY, BECAUSE HE ANSWERED THE CALL OF HIS COUNTRY, NOT THE DOG WHISTLE OF KARL ROVE
