INQUIRER: Veteran Rep. Babette Josephs (D., Phila.) last Thursday accused her primary opponent, Gregg Kravitz, of pretending to be bisexual in order to pander to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender voters, a powerful bloc in the district. “I outed him as a straight person,” Josephs said during a fund-raiser at the Black Sheep Pub & Restaurant, as some in the audience gasped or laughed, “and now he goes around telling people, quote, ‘I swing both ways.’ That’s quite a respectful way to talk about sexuality. This guy’s a gem.” Kravitz, 29, said that he is sexually attracted to both men and women and called Josephs’ comments offensive. MORE

TALKING POINTS MEMO: Reached this afternoon by TPM, however, she backed off a little from her claims. “I don’t even care, because a person’s sexuality has nothing to do with any of this,” Josephs said. She may have thought better of it since Kravitz has accused her of “sending a damaging message” to the LGBT community, especially young people, by mocking his sexuality (which he maintains is sincere). That message, he told TPM, is “‘Be careful about being open because somebody like Babette Josephs will publicly ridicule you.'” Perhaps ironically, Kravitz was the one who publicized Josephs’ remarks, sending the tape to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Today, he tweeted links to several stories about the remarks, including TPM’s. MORE

HUFFINGTON POST: William Gheen, head of the conservative, anti-“amnesty,” anti-illegal immigration group Americans for Legal Immigration PAC fucking-gay.jpg(ALIPAC), spoke at a Greenville, S.C. Tea Party rally this weekend and called for Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) to “come out of that log cabin closet.” According to Gheen, being gay is “a secret that Lindsey Graham has.” Gheen told the crowd: “I hope this secret isn’t being used as leverage over Senator Graham, so today I think Senator Graham, you need to come forward and tell people about your alternative lifestyle and your homosexuality.” MORE

WASHINGTON POST: William Gheen of Americans for Legal Immigration has a beef with Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.). It’s understandable. The Republican senator is actively working with the White House to come up with a rational and comprehensive immigration bill. And Gheen doesn’t like it. So much so that at a rally on Saturday he made this bold pronouncement: “Sen. Graham, you need to come forward and tell people about your alternative lifestyle and your homosexuality. Come out of that closet, Lindsey. Come out of that log cabin closet…Look, I’m a tolerant person. I don’t care about your private life, Lindsey. But as our U.S. senator I need to figure out why you’re trying to sell out your own countrymen, and I need to make sure your being gay isn’t it.” MORE

MICHELLE BACHMANN: “This is a very serious matter, because it is our children who are the prize for this community, they are specifically targeting our children.” MORE
